PROTECT MY MOTHERLAND

Who will protect my motherland?  From the incessant terror attacks and marauding criminal gangs,  That have taken our nation captive with ceaseless shots and bangs,  That threatens to shatter our very essence, thin thread upon which our nationhood hangs,  Who will slay this monstrous dragon, and destroy its feral fangs.  Who will protect my motherland?  Amidst this latent political landscape, so littered with twists and turns,  Of a political class so clueless, endlessly bickering as the nation burns,  Fighting petty wars of party loyalties, while in essence just but hired guns,  Engaged in a vicious fight for survival, even as the insecurity tide foams and churns. Who will protect my motherland?  When our youth are jobless, depressed and frustrated, dehumanized beyond scope,  Sleeping daily on a hungry belly, ravaged and afflicted by an addiction to dope,  Living fast and dying young, doing the...

MY KINDA GIRL

I'm tired of trying to be that romantic guy, Striving to meet dating standards ever rocketing sky high, That I should have the temperament of a clown, Bringing a smile to her face whenever I see a frown, Yet serious enough in life to give  her hope, Of a future so bright that its limitless in scope, In that confusion of rapidly shifting goal posts and distractions, I am caught up in a vicious cycle of changing passions and self destruction. I need a girl who will fire up more than just lust and physical desire, A woman who will inspire  me to push my dreams to realms higher, One who sees life beyond the limitations of current dimensions, A God fearing woman, never shy of seeking divine intervention,  A girl whose face and body will steal my affection, But the strength of her mind and character will command my attention, A girl who speaks her mind without silent brooding or shouting spells, A friend who understands my struggles with demons from mine private...

I MET A GIRL

I met a girl, On a hot, humid afternoon in the African Savannah, She floated into my sight in a haze, As if the afternoon heat had set my heart ablaze, With flames of passion that left my mind in a daze, Leaving me to only stare and gaze. I met a girl, On a hot, humid afternoon in the African Savannah, She had this exquisite slender frame, Dainty and delicate like that of a porcelain doll, Her smile was so beautiful that when it came, I suffered a dizzy spell and almost took a fall. I met a girl, On a hot, humid afternoon in the African Savannah, Her spell-binding beauty set my soul at ease, Basking in the warmth of her glow in total bliss, Her enchanting eyes twinkled in a playful tease, Leaving me wishing that I could steal a kiss. I met a girl, On a hot, humid afternoon in the African Savannah, She was the image of a fairy tale Princess, Beautiful and graceful with a skin so flawless, Her smile lit up her face and left me breathless,...

A RIVETING OBSESSION

I am mesmerized and dazzled, paralyzed and hypnotized, By this angelic apparition who has monopolized my attention, She smiles at my romantic declarations and undying love confessions, Blushes with appreciation at my romantic professions. I am mesmerized and dazzled, paralyzed and hypnotized, By this scintillating Princess who's smile renders me defenseless, Awestruck and speechless in the aura of her presence, Tongue-tied and witless under the spell of beauty so flawless. I am mesmerized and dazzled, paralyzed and hypnotized, By her aura of composure and spell-binding posture, Her confidence so pure even in the glare of exposure, Her step so sure the grace enchanting like a brilliant hue of azure.   © Patolyer 2014

JUDGE ME IN THE MORNING

Judge me in the morning, While the gentle rays of the sun whisper and dance at dawn, Before the deceptive warmth that caresses my body is withdrawn, And the gentle rays disappear like dew on a morning run, To be replaced instead by the scorching afternoon sun. Judge me in the morning, While the day is still young, virgin and nubile, When my dreams are still sharp and virile, Before time goes and their clarity is eroded, And the sharpness of my vision is slowly corroded. Judge me in the morning, Allow me the chance to valiantly defend my name, Even though my efforts may fail and I end up in shame, Let the light shine on me as I face the adverse claim, So that with courage and valor I may shoulder my blame. Judge me in the morning, Let me face my accusers in the glory of morning light, Let me stare at them from the pedestal of the dock's height, Let them know that I never went down without a fight, Let me torment their dreams henceforth for every night. © Pato...

THE END OF AN ERA

I take this nostalgic trip four years down the memory lanes, Viewing my life from yonder like a film shielded by glass panes, Staring at pleasures of joys past and the scars of gone pains, Marveling at the depth of new-found wisdom and experience gains, As the curtain cascades downwards,It is the end of an era. Staring at my younger self,I can't help but marvel at how time has flown, The innocent boy is gone, taken by the winds of change that have blown, Past me with speed and force, and in his place a young man has grown, Teeming with eagerness and haste to face the world and win his crown, As the curtain cascades downwards, It is the end of an era. I walk past the trails of juvenile heartbreaks and gigantic crushes, Smiling with nostalgia at the countless barrels of wasted tears, Laughing at the wasted efforts and endless adrenaline rushes, Amused by the teething mistakes and groundless fears, As the curtain cascades downwards,It is the end of an era. © Pat...

W e are Kenyan, we are one, E ven when terror spews, from the muzzle of your guns, S hattering so many lives, and leaving our peace undone, T he heartbeat of our nation, left exposed and prone, G ingerly we may step from our wounds, but our spirit is unbowed, A s we press on against terror, our courage is uncowed, T he Kenyan spirit, is stronger than ever and alive, E very death and injury has strengthened our resolve, together as one we shall survive. © Patolyer 2013.

HAPPINESS

Happiness is that feeling of utter bliss, The dizzying pleasure of a stolen kiss, The cheeky wink of a naughty tease, That will never leave You ill at ease. Happiness is a roaring wind, Pulsing and soaring with force and greed, Devouring and tearing it all to feed, An insatiable appetite to grow and breed. Happiness is like that beautiful dream, On a cloud floating to a glorious realm, Massaged by the wind and caressed by steam, Enchanting like the glow of a moonlight  beam. Happiness is that bubbly and wonderful  feeling, Of passion that leaves us wobbly and reeling, The inexplicable joy that brings cures and healing, To a heart so hurt that it's crawling and bleeding. Happiness is a choice, To press on despite the falling ice, And season your life with some warmth and spice, To value your heart above any price. © Patolyer 2013.

LOVE AND WISDOM

Love and wisdom, More Intimate Than an exchange between a tender bridegroom and his bride Combination Clear like a foetus thought and pure as a virgins kiss Much sweeter than her tease Twice fold noble as a sturdy horse Yet opposite like a gun and a rose No wisdom in love Or should I say no love in wisdom Which is which, I can barely fathom For in love even the wisest minds sleep And in wisdom the purest heart cheat Lack of love just reason, minds marry and can't keep Without wisdom but only passion, hearts bond and later bleed Wisdom is organized love Love is accessed wisdom In affection devoid of wisdom man take other man's life In reason a lawyer put passion of heat as a defense And in wisdom devoid of affection the judge lessen the sentence What anomaly Wisdom feel life but think of death Love feels of only bliss Because for wisdom its foolishness to think of happiness Love and wisdom Both treat each other with sheer suspicion Love sees wisdom as so immoral an...

I WON'T GIVE MY HEART TO YOU AGAIN

I won't give my heart to You again, Despite the pleas and assurances,You apply my trust to gain, For when You broke my heart, I left and faced the pain, Alone and conquered, from your love broke the chains. I was never out of options when I made You my choice, Saw you as my guiding light amidst the chaos and the noise, I ignored the warnings and never raised my voice, Not knowing you were leading my heart towards a shattering demise. I fell headlong, heart first for your beauty driven by lust, Confused by the raging desire that our love would last, Never imagining  that it was just an act that was being cast, So when the curtains fell it would all be in the past. I refuse to be pulled back by the memories of the sweet moments we shared, Nor to be held captive by the sacrifices You made and the heart you bared, For I discovered I was wrong, all along, to think that You cared, For if You did, breaking my heart You'd have never dared. I am glad its over for I...

TEMA

© Patolyer 2013

REAPER

I hear to the distant chime and toll of the cathedral bell, It's mournful ring whispering to my soul that all is not well, It seeps into my conscience and taunts like a demon from hell, The anguish tormenting my soul in ways I cannot tell. My freedom is tainted and my glow is gone, For the devil painted my world and left an empty cone, I nearly fainted as I teetered and tottered, totally driven by the alluring tone, Dancing to the cruel rhythm to which my life seems drawn. The reality dawns, suddenly like stones in a shower of hail, Shocking my heart and soul and drowning my painful wail, From the realization that I just missed the devils tail, And missed and encounter with the grim reaper, just about to set sail.   © Patolyer 2013

I AM INSPIRED

I am inspired, Yes, my enthusiasm is fired, By the failures and disappointments encountered in life, In the never ending roller-coaster of love, hate, peace and strife, For even though I may be beaten I am still breathing and still alive, And I know that at the end of it all I will conquer and survive. I am inspired, Yes, My enthusiasm is fired, By the wins and victories that I achieve however small, The grace and mercies that are divine answers to my call, For even though at times I may stumble and fall, I know that God is there for me forever more, through it all. PASSION OF MY LOVE

When she calls my name, I feel free like wild game, Natural unshackled and untamed, Tranquil in my claim, Free to soar as an eagle, Under the passion of love's flame. When she smiles at me, My heart flutters like a butterfly, Perched on the nectar of her love, On a day so warm and dry, Resting and swaying in peace and joy, Coz I no longer have to fly. When she holds my hand, Courage wells in my heart, For she is my inspiration, Driving my each and every part, To strive for distinction, Even when we are miles apart. © Patolyer 2012

A DATE WITH DESTINY

I have a date for which I can't afford to be late, A date with destiny that I would love to hate, A dalliance with providence to open the gate, To future prosperity and secure my fate On each and every day my deeds are weighed, I must pay attention to avoid being swayed, By any distraction that blocks my way, To achieve my goals at the end of the day. For my date with destiny is one that I shall never waste, For it can never be undone or covered by a copy-paste, It is a daily affair of pure dedication and utmost haste, That determines the quality of my future tastes. © Patolyer 2012

MY PRIDE,MY DIGNITY

I yearn to be treated with dignity, Whenever life denies me the opportunity, For though I face challenges of instability, I face each head on to the best of my ability. I deserve to be accorded some respect, Even when most of my kind are deemed suspect, In many situations I'm left upset, By the indignation that is so deep set. I preserve my dignity with whats left of my pride, That is battered and beaten as an effect of the rough ride, That life has conspired to adjoin to my side, To drag and push along the way as a guide. © Patolyer 2012

I FIGHT TO WIN

In every life you have to fight, To overcome darkness and see the light, To move towards a future so real and bright, To soar in the sky as high as a kite. Mischief and grief will roar and hiss, Failure and disappointment will chide and tease, Many a times leaving me ill at ease, But in each moment I fight to achieve prosperity and peace. For easy success is cheap and rare, I fight to win mine hard but fair, And in every step takes every care, To clear and leave every challenge bare. © Patolyer 2012
